Found the sewing stand (or end table) the other day at a sort of estate sale (in a storage place). Great price, cute lines, not too bad shape.
Here is the Before:
cute but a bit blah…
I caught the hubs sanding it and yelled (politely) “STOP!!! I’m using milk paint on this.” Hopefully it will still chip…
Here is the After:
Funny thing is, it didn’t really chip until AFTER I applied the finish coat (new product-jury out still on reviews). It chipped ENORMOUSLY after that and I re-finished it with MMS’s Hemp Oil. Now I will have to make sure it is DONE chipping.
P. S. The new product I mentioned before was developed by another company for their own paint line which is an acrylic. I will use it the recommended way before I determine if I like it or not.

I have purchased three of MMS’s milk paints and twice I have been disappointed – only because it didn’t chip on its own. I adore the colors and how it goes on my pieces and how beautifully it distresses with sandpaper and how gorgeous the pieces are with a little wax – but they didn’t chip…..
Finally – I didn’t over sand and the paint chipped and crackled – hurray!!! (Outside in the bright sun-sorry for the shadowy pictures)
oh – a little chippiness!
A lot more and some peeling too – yay!
The finished piece with some really dark wax on it to make it look more black!
Don’t be intimidated when the pieces don’t chip on their own – distress like you always have. But when they do their own thing – pure bliss!
First, Miss Mustard Seed’s Lucketts Green is on this table base and chairs. Great color for Spring! The natural top coordinates nicely with the chippy milk paint.
Sweet little drop leaf table and 4 chairs ~ SOLD
Next up, Cece Caldwell’s Vintage White on the chairs and table base which has been dark stained for lots of drama. Love the new fabric on the chairs too.
Lovely oval table and pretty cane back chairs – SOLD
So lovely for a touch of Spring color in your home!
