it sure doesn’t seem like it has been almost 2 weeks since I last posted.  Sorry-things do get a bit hurried over the holidays, don’t they?

We promise to do better in the New Year-see you after January 1st!!

More Dressers in the shop

Miss Evie and Miss Sophia have been  really busy getting these new pieces ready for the shop.  We sold several dressers and other pieces last week so there were some holes!

Miss Sophia did 3!

December – Already??

Okay, older people always said that as you age the years go by faster and faster.  Have to tell you they are absolutely correct!  This year has just flown – seems like it was just Christmas and here it comes again!

Vintage Christmas Postcards are always so very festive!  My supply this year is rather low so I will have to hunt for more in the New Year!!

Huge Wooden Bowl – Before and After

Found this gigantic bowl in a junk shop locally earlier this week and I LOVED the size – poor thing was all dried and pale though.

I wasn’t too worried about it because in my arsenal I have Miss Mustard Seed’s Hemp Oil.  What I didn’t realize was how little I actually had left in the tin!  Thank goodness it was just enough to do the bowl!  I have to order more because I have a whole stack of vintage cutting boards at home waiting to be treated.

Miss Mustard Seed’s Hemp oil is invaluable in this business for refreshing tired, dry wood – drawers, cutting boards, bowls, anything really.  AND it is food safe so those cutting boards will be put back into use soon!

It’s Looking a little Christmas-y in here!

Here it is almost time for our Christmas (aka Holiday*) Open house and I haven’t even begun to show you things in the shop yet!  ~Sorry!~

When:  Sunday, November 16th

Time:  Noon until 5 pm

Where:  2580 State St  Salem OR 97301

Here’s a cute little table top that is decorated – gotta get busy on the others!

* We refer to our Christmas Open House occasionally as a Holiday Open House … why?  Because it takes place before Thanksgiving and we are decorated for both  If this offends anyone it wasn’t intentional.

Poor Thanksgiving!

Halloween is almost past and we begin to decorate this weekend for our November 16 Holiday Open House so poor Thanksgiving will be pushed into the corner thru no fault of her own.  Wish the seasons weren’t so rushed!

We’ve had lovely fall-ish vignettes throughout the shop and I wish they could last longer.  Before they disappear here are some highlights:

And next we will have Christmas!

Antique Berkey & Gay Twin Bed – Before and After

I found this bed a number of years ago in one of my favorite junkin’ spots and even though it had some terrible damage to one section, I HAD to have it!  It’s a gorgeous caned piece with lovely trim by Berkey and Gay and is signed.  The condition was really good except for the one spot-a crucial one since one of the fabulous rails has to be inserted there and wood was missing!

missing wood (and no way to attach the rail and use the bed!)

the rails!

Fast forward that number of years-we have a partner in the shop who is fabulous with those weird fixes so I turned it over to her and she graciously agreed to fix it and paint it too-thank you, MIss Evie!

She fixed it and told us what we needed to finish repairing it and make it function again-then she painted and painted and painted – using several American Paint Company paints – then waxed it:
